A New Building for the Institute
With the support of the Santa Maria Education Fund, a new building has now been acquired for the Institute.

SMEF has bought a second building for the Institute, directly opposite the first one. It came on the market a few months ago and has some large rooms that will be ideal for classrooms, so the SMEF trustees instructed Margaret Hebblethwaite not to lose this unrepeatable opportunity. As you can see, it is a very sizeable house, and the garage area on the right of the picture will give us an open-air space for classes, which will be cooler and more pleasant than an indoor classroom when the weather is hot. We will of course need to do some repairs and adaptations.
The Institute is increasingly becoming an educational centre for the village. In addition to the two-year food technology course it offers a number of extra-curricular classes: Guaraní on three nights a week, English for four hours every day, folk dance, electricity, handicraft, typing and the ever popular computer training.
